Numbers chapter 6 Star Chart: Clockwise from when "the (Shekinah) Lord (red radius) spake unto (Ophiuchus) Moses, saying, Speak unto (Hercules) Aaron and unto his (Cepheus & Perseus) sons, saying, On this wise ye shall bless the (Gemini) children of Israel, saying unto them, The Lord bless thee, and keep thee: The Lord make his (Shekinah) face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The Lord LIFT UP his countenance upon thee (180°), and give thee (red radius) (solar Shekinah) PEACE" (6:22-26) till "they shall put my name (Shaddai) upon the (Perseus, Cepheus, Castor, Pollux) children of Israel, and I will bless them" (6:27) is 180° when a Shin is formed that represents his Shaddai NAME; and the Lord LIFTS UP his Shekinah countenance upon them forming the commonly recognized PEACE sign -- meaning peace between God and man.

Jesus Was a Netser (or Branch) and a Nazarene
(from Nazareth), But Not a Nazarite
Since He Drank Wine and Touched the Dead

6:1 And the (Shekinah) Lord spake unto (Ophiuchus) Moses, saying,

2 Speak unto the (Gemini) children of Israel, and (red radius) say unto them, When either (Castor) man or (Pollux) woman shall separate themselves to vow a vow of a Nazarite, to separate themselves unto the (Shekinah) Lord:

3 He (Hercules) shall (red radius) separate himself from (lunar and solar) wine and strong drink, and shall drink no (lunar or solar) vinegar of wine, or vinegar of strong drink, neither shall he drink any liquor of (lunar or solar) grapes, nor eat moist grapes, or dried.

4 All the days of his (Hercules) (red radius) separation shall he eat nothing that is made of the (red radius) vine tree, from the (lunar or solar) kernels even to the husk.

Forbidden fruit was grapes

5 All the days of the (red radius) vow of his (Hercules) (red radius) separation there shall no (red radius) razor come upon his head: until the days be fulfilled, in the which he separateth himself unto the Lord, he (Hercules) shall be (red radius) holy, and shall let the (red radius) locks of the hair of his (Hercules) head grow.

6 All the days that he (Hercules) (red radius) separateth himself unto the Lord he shall come at no dead body.

7 He shall not make himself unclean for his (Castor) father, or for his (Pollux) mother, for his (Castor) brother, or for his (Pollux) sister, when they die: because the (red radius) consecration of his God is upon his head.

8 All the days of his separation he is holy unto the Lord.

When either man or woman shall separate, etc. - The word nazir, from nazar, to separate, signifies merely a separated person, i. e., one peculiarly devoted to the service of God by being separated from all servile employments. From the Nazarites sprang the Rechabites, from the Rechabites the Essenes, from the Essenes the Anchorites or Hermits, and in imitation of those, the different monastic orders. Some contend strongly that the Nazarite was a type of our Lord; but neither analogy nor proof can be produced. Our blessed Lord both drank wine and touched the dead, which no Nazarite would do: as to his either shaving his hair or letting it grow, we know nothing. His being called a Nazarene, Matthew 2:23, is nothing to the purpose, as it can mean no more than either that he was an inhabitant of Nazareth, which was a place of no credit, and therefore used as a term of reproach; or that he was in a general sense consecrated to the service of God - so were Samson, Samuel, Jeremiah, and John Baptist; or rather, that he was the netser or Branch, Isaiah 11:1, and tsemach, Zechariah 3:8; Zechariah 6:12, which is quite a different word; but this title is expressly applied to our blessed Lord by the above prophets; but in no place do they or any other prophets call him a Nazarite, in the sense in which nazir is used. Indeed it could not in truth be applied to him, as the distinguishing marks of a Nazarite never belonged to him. He was, it is true, the netser or branch out of the root of Jesse, the genuine heir to the throne of David, whose dominion should extend over the universe, who should be King of kings, and Lord of Lords; but the word Ναζωραιος, Matthew 2:23, signifies merely a Nazoraean, or inhabitant of Nazareth.

No vinegar of wine, etc. - chomets signifies fermented wine, and is probably used here to signify wine of a strong body, or any highly intoxicating liquor. Dr. Lightfoot supposes that the Leper being the most defiled and loathsome of creatures, was an emblem of the wretched, miserable state of man by the fall; and that the Nazarite was the emblem of man in his state of innocence. Wine and grapes are here particularly forbidden to the Nazarite because, as the doctor thinks, being an emblem of man in his paradisiacal state, he was forbidden that tree and its fruits by eating of which Adam fell; for the doctor, as well as the Jewish rabbins, believed the tree of knowledge to have been none other than the vine.
Vinegar of strong drink - See the note on Leviticus 10:9.

There shall no razor come upon his head - The vow of the Nazarite consisted in the following particulars: -
1. He consecrated himself in a very especial and extraordinary manner to God.

2. This was to continue for a certain season, probably never less than a whole year, that he might have a full growth of hair to burn in the fire which is under the sacrifice of the peace-offering, Numbers 6:18.

3. During the time of his separation, or nazarate, he drank no wine nor strong drink; nor used any vinegar formed from any inebriating liquor, nor ate the flesh or dried grapes, nor tasted even the kernels or husks of any thing that had grown upon the vine.

4. He never shaved his head, but let his hair grow, as the proof of his being in this separated state, and under vows of peculiar austerity.

5. He never touched any dead body, nor did any of the last offices, even to his nearest kin; but was considered as the priests, who were wholly taken up with the service of God, and regarded nothing else.

6. All the days of his separation he was holy, Numbers 6:8.

During the whole time he was to be incessantly employed in religious acts.

The consecration of his God is upon his head - Literally, The separation of his God is upon his head; meaning his hair, which was the proof and emblem of his separation. Now as the hair of the Nazarite was a token of his subjection to God through all the peculiarities of his nazarate, a woman, who is married, is considered as a Nazarite for life, i. e., separated from all others, and joined to one husband who is her lord; hence St. Paul, probably alluding to this circumstance, says, 1 Corinthians 11:10 : The woman ought to have power upon her head, i.e., wear her hair and veil; for this hair is a proof of her nazarate, and of her being in subjection to her husband, as the Nazarite was under subjection to the Lord by the rule of his order.

9 And if any man (Perseus) die very suddenly by him (Hercules), and he hath defiled the (lunar) head of his consecration; then he shall (red radius) shave his (lunar) head in the day of his cleansing, on the seventh day shall he shave it.

10 And on the eighth day he shall bring two (lunar white) turtles, or two (lunar white) young pigeons, to the priest, to the door of the (red radius) tabernacle of the congregation:

11 And the (Castor) priest shall offer the one for a (solar) sin offering, and the other for a (solar) burnt offering, and make an atonement for him, for that he sinned by the dead, and shall hallow his (lunar) head that same day.

12 And he shall consecrate unto the Lord the days of his (red radius) separation, and shall bring a (lunar white) lamb of the first year for a trespass offering: but the days that were before shall be lost, because his separation was defiled.

13 And this is the law of the (Hercules) Nazarite, when the days of his (red radius) separation are fulfilled: he shall be brought unto the (red radius) door of the tabernacle of the congregation:

14 And he shall offer his offering unto the Lord, one (lunar white) (Aries) he lamb of the first year without blemish for a burnt offering, and one (lunar white) (Aries) ewe lamb of the first year without blemish for a sin offering, and one (lunar white) (Aries) ram without blemish for (solar) peace offerings,

15 And a (lunar) basket of unleavened bread, cakes of fine flour mingled with (solar golden) oil, and (lunar) wafers of unleavened bread anointed with (solar golden) oil, and their meat offering, and their drink offerings.

16 And the priest shall bring them before the (Shekinah) Lord, and shall offer his sin offering, and his (solar) burnt offering:

17 And he shall offer the (Aries) ram for a sacrifice of peace offerings unto the (Shekinah) Lord, with the (lunar) basket of unleavened bread: the priest shall offer also his meat offering, and his drink offering.

18 And the (Hercules) Nazarite shall (red radius) shave the (lunar) head of his (red radius) separation at the door of the (red radius) tabernacle of the congregation, and shall take the (red radius) hair of the (lunar) head of his (red radius) separation, and put it in the (solar) fire which is under the sacrifice of the peace offerings.

19 And the priest shall take the sodden shoulder of the (Aries) ram, and one (lunar) unleavened cake out of the (lunar) basket, and one (lunar) unleavened wafer, and shall put them upon the (lunar) hands of the Nazarite, after the (red radius) hair of his (red radius) separation is (red radius) shaven:

20 And the (Castor) priest shall wave them for a wave offering before the (Shekinah) Lord: this is holy for the priest, with the wave breast and heave shoulder: and after that the Nazarite may drink wine.

21 This is the law of the (Hercules) Nazarite who hath vowed, and of his offering unto the (Shekinah) Lord for his (red radius) separation, beside that that his hand shall get: according to the vow which he vowed, so he must do after the law of his (red radius) separation.

22 And the (Shekinah) Lord spake unto (Ophiuchus) Moses, saying,

23 Speak unto (Hercules) Aaron and unto his (Gemini) sons, saying, On this wise ye shall bless the (Cepheus Perseus) children of Israel, saying unto them,

24 The (Shekinah) Lord bless thee, and keep thee:

25 The (Shekinah) Lord make his (solar Shekinah) face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:

26 The (Shekinah) Lord lift up his countenance upon thee (180°), and give thee peace.

27 And they shall put my name (Shaddai) upon the (Gemini) children of Israel, and I will bless them.
